John Obadiah Westwood
John Obadiah Westwood, between insects and manuscripts
John Obadiah Westwood (1805-1893) was an English scholar with two sides: a renowned entomologist, appointed in 1861 as the first professor of zoology at the Hope Chair at the University of Oxford, and a passionate paleographer. He devoted years to medieval illuminated manuscripts, faithfully reproducing their pages and decorations in large illustrated volumes. Purple Greek Manuscripts grew out of this work: the gold and silver letters of ancient codices on parchment dyed purple, a color reserved for the most precious books. Bringing one of these prints into your home means preserving that research, not just filling an empty space.
Crafted to last
Each Framed Art Print is made with fine art paper, then finished and framed by hand in Italy. We don't chase an immediate effect: we seek a finish that remains true to the original colors over time, because a work meant to be passed down deserves a foundation as solid as the story it tells.

An artwork, not just a decoration
A print doesn't just fill a wall: it brings with it a theme, an era, a story that continues to speak to those who look at it. The works of John Obadiah Westwood housed by Miriaci remain true to this principle — pieces chosen for their meaning, even before their aesthetic appeal.
Aesthetics fade. Meaning remains.
