Kubo Shunman
Kubo Shunman, elegance and poetry in Edo ukiyo-e
Kubo Shunman (circa 1757-1820) was a painter, printmaker, and poet active in late-eighteenth-century Edo, trained under ukiyo-e artist Kitao Shigemasa. In his early years, he developed female portraits with elongated elegance, drawing on the influence of Torii Kiyonaga, as beautifully illustrated by Courtesan at a Veranda Railing. After 1790, he abandoned commercial printmaking to devote himself to commissioned luxury editions, evolving toward more restrained and atmospheric compositions. Also admired as a kyōka poet, he frequented Edo's literary circles alongside Hokusai, Utamaro, and Eishi, remaining one of the most prolific painters of the Kitao school. Bringing one of these prints into your home means preserving that pursuit, not filling an empty space.
Crafted to last
Every Framed Art Print is made with fine art paper, then finished and framed by hand in Italy. We do not chase an immediate effect: we seek a result that remains faithful to the original colors over time, because a work intended to be passed down deserves a foundation as solid as the story it tells.
