Marpon et Flammarion was the Parisian publishing house from which Flammarion editions emerged. In the second half of the 19th century, it also published collections of decorative plates, which artisans and decorators used to study the ornamentation of distant cultures. Its plates of Arabic ornament, composed of stars, lozenges, and interlacing patterns in red, blue, and gold, bring the rhythm and precision of that art into a room.
