Reijer Stolk
Reijer Stolk: between European abstraction and African motifs
Reijer Stolk (1896-1945), a Dutch artist born in Java and trained at the School of Applied Arts in Haarlem, devoted himself to abstract compositions, anatomical studies, and landscapes, as shown by his Standing Nude Man. A journey to the Gold Coast and Nigeria in 1930 marked a turning point in his work, leading him to study the decorative motifs of African textiles and incorporate them into his own graphic language, in line with early twentieth-century Europe's interest in non-European arts. Bringing one of these prints into your home means preserving that exploration, not filling an empty space.
Crafted to last
Each Framed Art Print is made with fine art paper, then finished and framed by hand in Italy. We are not chasing an immediate effect: we seek a finish that remains true to the original colors over time, because a work intended to be passed down deserves a solid foundation as enduring as the story it tells.
