Richard Nicolaüs Roland Holst
Richard Roland Holst: symbolism and art in service of the community
Richard Nicolaüs Roland Holst (1868-1938) trained at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, which he later directed from 1926 to 1934, developing a Symbolist style inspired by the ideas of William Morris, for whom art was meant to serve a social and collective function. He created woodcuts, posters, stained-glass windows for Utrecht Cathedral, and murals for the Amsterdam Stock Exchange, applying the same decorative sensibility to mythological subjects such as his Birth of Venus. Close to Dutch socialist circles, he is now considered one of the leading figures of Symbolism in the Netherlands between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Bringing one of these prints into your home means preserving that artistic pursuit, not filling an empty space.
Crafted to last
Every Framed Art Print is made with fine art paper, then finished and framed by hand in Italy. We do not chase an immediate effect: we seek a result that remains faithful to the original colors over time, because a work intended to be passed down deserves a foundation as solid as the story it tells.
