Tsukioka Yoshitoshi
Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, the last great master of ukiyo-e
Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) is considered the last great master of ukiyo-e, capable of living through the fall of the shogunate and the Meiji Restoration without losing his own voice. A student of Kuniyoshi from childhood, he inherited his attention to observing from life, combining it with a dramatic use of light and shadow and dynamic compositions influenced by Western perspective, as seen in The Actor Bandō Hikosaburō V. His major works also include the series One Hundred Aspects of the Moon, considered his masterpiece, and Twenty-eight Famous Murders with Verses. His death in 1892 conventionally marks the end of the great ukiyo-e tradition. Bringing one of these prints into your home means preserving that artistic exploration, not filling an empty space.
Crafted to last
Each Framed Art Print is made with fine art paper, then finished and framed by hand in Italy. We do not chase an immediate effect: we seek a result that remains faithful to the original colors over time, because a work meant to be passed down deserves a foundation as solid as the story it tells.
