Paul Klee

A teacher at the Bauhaus, he combined geometric rigor with an almost childlike line.
Paul Klee (1879-1940), a Swiss-German painter, taught at the Bauhaus alongside Wassily Kandinsky, developing theories on color and form collected in his teaching notebooks, which remain a reference for modern art. His work, spanning Expressionism, Cubism, and Surrealism without adhering exclusively to any one movement, combines geometric rigor with an almost childlike and playful line. He created more than nine thousand works, including paintings, drawings, and watercolors. In 1937, the Nazi regime included his works in the Degenerate Art exhibition, confiscating more than one hundred from German public collections. He is now considered one of the great innovators of twentieth-century art.

Some pieces have minor imperfections: they’re part of their history and soul. There’s nothing interesting about perfection.

“An old city constructed like a score of forms. Klee created it in 1928 while teaching at the Bauhaus in Dessau.”

Size Guide

VERTICAL FORMAT
The most natural format for portraits, figures, and compositions with a central focal point. Perfect above a console table, next to a door, or in a narrow hallway.

WIDE HORIZONTAL FORMAT
Ideal for landscapes, views, and panoramic scenes. It fits perfectly above a sofa, a bed’s headboard, or a sideboard.

SQUARE FORMAT
A balanced and essential format that suits almost any wall. Perfect on its own or combined with other artworks to create a small gallery.

Printing and Framing

The frame
Black, understated, made to last.
The frame is made of black wood, with a slim, square profile. A 5 cm white mat surrounds the artwork: a wide margin that lets the subject breathe and separates it from the frame. Glass protects the print and only catches a slight reflection when the light is bright.

The print
A sheet with weight and grain.
The artwork is printed on 250 g/m² fine art paper. The surface is matte with a slightly raised grain: it doesn’t reflect light, so the colors look the same from anywhere in the room. The weight and texture are those of a print made to last, not a poster.
