Auguste Rodin

Considered the father of modern sculpture.
Auguste Rodin (1840-1917), a French sculptor considered the father of modern sculpture, was born in Paris to a modest family and trained by attending the Petite École and working as an apprentice in several decorative-art studios. After years of apprenticeship and academic rejections, he established himself with works such as The Age of Bronze (1877) and, above all, The Gates of Hell, a vast sculptural project inspired by Dante from which independent masterpieces such as The Thinker and The Kiss emerged. His technique, based on vibrating, unfinished surfaces capable of capturing light and movement, broke with neoclassical idealization and paved the way for the expressive sculpture of the twentieth century. He also produced numerous drawings, including studies inspired by Greek art and mythology. He died in Meudon in 1917 of natural causes, at the height of his international fame.

Some pieces have minor imperfections: they’re part of their history and soul. There’s nothing interesting about perfection.

“A terracotta-colored, armless female body shaped like a vase. Beside it, a broad gray brushstroke makes it stand out.”

Size Guide

VERTICAL FORMAT
The most natural format for portraits, figures, and compositions with a central focal point. Perfect above a console table, next to a door, or in a narrow hallway.

WIDE HORIZONTAL FORMAT
Ideal for landscapes, views, and panoramic scenes. It fits perfectly above a sofa, a bed’s headboard, or a sideboard.

SQUARE FORMAT
A balanced and essential format that suits almost any wall. Perfect on its own or combined with other artworks to create a small gallery.

Printing and Framing

The frame
Black, understated, made to last.
The frame is made of black wood, with a slim, square profile. A 5 cm white mat surrounds the artwork: a wide margin that lets the subject breathe and separates it from the frame. Glass protects the print and only catches a slight reflection when the light is bright.

The print
A sheet with weight and grain.
The artwork is printed on 250 g/m² fine art paper. The surface is matte with a slightly raised grain: it doesn’t reflect light, so the colors look the same from anywhere in the room. The weight and texture are those of a print made to last, not a poster.
